Aubrey Sinclair and Dr. Tracey Mason work together to perform an analysis on the FT-IR, which is a measurement technique for collecting infrared spectra. With this instrument, a very small amount of an unknown chemical, liquid or solid, can be analyzed within seconds, producing a signature spectrum, unique to the unknown. The spectrum is then compared to knowns in order to identify the compound.
