Juniors Jenna Moyer, Becki Shook, Jenn Kurek and Ashley Pitti all take a break from classes and research to eat lunch together in the Science Center. When asked how they were enjoying the lunch, Jenn responded that the SU is her “home away from home” and that she loves being with her friends.

Rachel Bullock, a senior capstone student working under Dr. Tracey Mason, takes a picture of a DNA gel. This piece of equipment allows electronic visualization of DNA bands in an agarose gel. After the gel is viewed on the computer, it can be printed in order to provide a hardcopy record for laboratory notes.

Ashley Pitti, a research student under Dr. Tracey Mason, spends time in the laboratory performing a DNA purification. Ashley is spending this semester working on Dr. Mason’s independent research project which is aimed to determine how DNA interstrand cross-links are repaired by the body. This information may then explain why chemotherapy fails for some patients.
